Intern Spotlight: Amy Andrews

Amy Andrews Hello there! My name is Amy Andrews and I am a full time student at McDaniel College in Westminster, MD where I am a Communication major. I am a 2005 graduate of Westminster High School and 2009 graduate of Carroll Community College.

I would first like to say that I am so excited to be interning at the Community Media Center this summer! It is such a pleasure to be working with our Carroll County community sharing and creating memories! I plan to work in the media communications field after I graduate from McDaniel College. I am a proud member of the Carroll Arts Center and a member of FLICC (Film Lovers In Carroll County).

During spring semester 2010 at McDaniel College, I enrolled in a 1950's cinema course and I enjoyed the course so much! My professor inspired me to follow my dreams and become actively involved in the world of film. I decided that I must gain experience as a film maker and that is when I decided to intern at the Community Media Center this summer.

Intern Spotlight: Annie Armiger

Annie Armiger Hey! I'm Annie Armiger. I'm a senior undergrad at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland and I am just starting my internship at the Community Media Center. I originally began college as a Social Work major and an Elementary Education minor, but realized that this wasn't for me. I have always loved film and television, so I thought maybe I should make it a career. I switched to a Communication major and Writing minor at the beginning of my junior year, and I have been learning about the media more in-depth ever since. This internship appealed to me because I am fresh in the media field, and I thought this was the perfect place to learn more about television and film production. When I graduate, my dream is to move to New York City and eventually work for MTV.

Intern Spotlight: Reggie Barry

Reggie Barry Hello, my name is Reggie Barry. I am currently 17 years old, and a senior at Century High School. I am very excited to become an intern at the Community Media Center. I first found out about the CMC while enrolled in the Video Production program taught by Mr. John Pellegrini at the Carroll County Career and Technology Center. While at the CCCTC I did work on several PSA's including various topics like "Theft", and how The Career and Technology Center is "Going Green". I also recently shot a music video of my friends band "Call Ahead Seating", which I will edit and make into an awesome video. I have just recently become very interested in video production, but from the very beginning I came to really love filming, and editing. This internship will really help me know for a fact exactly what I want to do after high school, and will certainly add some valuable information to my resume. After high school I plan on going to Carroll Community College, but from there I hope to get into The Art Institute of Washington, where I will further my skills in the field of video production. Interests of mine include playing Ultimate Frisbee, and Soccer in my free time with my friends after school. My favorite bands include Foo Fighters, 30 Seconds to Mars, U2, and Bruce Springsteen.

Intern Spotlight: Chrissie Bowman

Chrissie Bowman I came into this opportunity thinking that I may not get the experience I need, because the CMC is not a major station, but I was surely proven wrong. The small staffed atmosphere allowed me to have a very personal and hands-on experience. Because of my concentration in Broadcast Journalism, I received minimal schooling in the technical aspect of television. Prior to coming to the CMC, I knew next to nothing about audio, camera operation, and very little about editing.

Now that my hours have been completed, I can set up a camera, produce, cast and direct a project, work audio, and use Final Cut Pro. I never thought I could be so excited about "behind the scenes". I was also uncertain if I would be able to do any on-camera talent, which has been my focus throughout school. But I was proven wrong again. My supervisor Kevin made it a point that I had plenty of opportunities to be on-camera talent for multiple CMC projects.

My internship was more than I could ask for. I learned so much more than I ever anticipated could be possible in such a short time. I would absolutely refer the CMC to all students and professors as a one in a million internship experience!

During my junior year I took a class called Script Writing and Video Production which helped spark my interest in learning more about video production. Sophie Esman I first found CMC while looking around online for a summer internship as a way to build my college resume and explore media production. Intern Spotlight: Jacob Hamby

Jacob Hamby Hey there, my name is Jacob Hamby. I'm a junior in high school and just beginning my internship here at the Community Media Center. I was in elementary school when I first took an interest in film and video. My dad showed me how stop motion animation could be done with our family's home camcorder, and I was enthralled. I experimented with stop-motion animation through the beginning of my middle school years before turning to computer animation and live action film. But in the past couple years I have decided that computer animation isn't quite for me, and that I want to solely focus on educating myself in the different aspects of live action production. I believe that this internship will give me valuable experience towards such an end. After I graduate high school, I will attend film school and pursue a career in cinematography.

Intern Spotlight: Rachel Held

Rachel Held My name is Rachel Held, and I am a Junior and Studio Art major at McDaniel College, in Westminster. I stay on campus during the semester, but I live and attended high school in Ellicott City.

My first experience with television production was through a video editing course. I heard about the Community Media Center through McDaniel's Career Services and thought the internship offered here would be an excellent experience.

I have just begun my involvement with the Community Media Center. So far the experience has been interesting and educational, and I look forward to my future work here. For this semester I plan to create a PSA program for SERRV in New Windsor, and later on a PSA program for the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster. These will eventually air on Channel 19.

So far I have found my experience with the Community Media Center to be very useful. I have been learning how to use high quality cameras and how to create a PSA tailored to a client's needs. I look forward to the actual production and editing of the PSA.

Intern Spotlight: Craig Johnston

Craig Johnston As stated above, I am indeed Craig Johnston. I am a Video major, video department lab aide, and MAP Music Director at Stevenson University, and I really enjoy it there. The first time I really knew what I wanted to be was in seventh grade, when I knew I wanted to be a movie director. Honestly, I can't see why anyone would want to do anything else. What I will do after college, I do not know, but I do know that my experience at the Community Media Center will help me in wherever it is that I end up pursuing. My other interests are varied: snowboarding, swing dancing, and rugby. To whomever is reading this, I sincerely hope that you support Carroll County programming.

Intern Spotlight: Austin Kishter

Austin Kishter Hi, my name is Austin Kishter. I am a Sophomore at Westminster High School and I am starting an internship here at the Community Media Center. About three years ago, I volunteered to help shoot the Recreation and Parks Volunteer of the Year Awards with Mr. Dick Shleckter. He taught me a lot about audio and video and got me interested in audio and video production. I had worked with stuff like that before and ever since it has been one of my biggest interests. The programs that I have worked with are Vegas Pro, Audacity, and Mixcraft. With these programs I learned how to speed up and slow down video, make the pitches of instruments higher or lower, and add different sounds and effects to any project that i work with. Things I like to do in my spare time are playing video games, playing guitar, skateboarding, and watching TV. After I graduate from high school, I want to attend a school where I can do something along the lines of music and video.

Intern Spotlight: Charles Nelson

Charles Nelson Interning at CMC... where do I start? I have nothing but good things to say. The staff always made me feel comfortable and a part of the team. I was trusted to use equipment, and because of this my confidence grew. I really felt like my work matured over the duration of my internship. I was always encouraged to add my touch to pieces, and was trusted to shoot and produce work by myself. The type of confidence I gained from this experience has worked its way into my schoolwork and personal life as well. I feel like I have friends forever at CMC, and will always appreciate the opportunities they gave me.

Intern Spotlight: Colin Rhodes

Colin Rhodes Hello there, my name is Colin Rhodes and I am thrilled to be a member of the Community Media Center as an intern. My whole life, a major interest of mine has been to learn how to make and produce professional videos and film for live broadcasting, news interviews and short movies. I first started learning the basics of this field at my video production class taught at Winters Mill High School in 2008. It was a fantastic program and taught me how to express my creative thoughts through the likes of a camera. I learned how to format a script, use a camera and edit. I continued my learning at the Career and Technology Center in Carroll County. The video production class taught there prepares students how life would be like in a business world with video production. We often had many chances to work on live shoots at the Community Media Center. This was when I truly fell in love with the field and got the chance to become an intern. My class was the first to film and come up with ideas for the first two episodes of Carroll Youth TV which is a show designed to inform youth what is going on in the county they live in. The show also has many educational programs to inspire youth to be more involved in the county.

I plan to get a degree in Digital Arts and Multimedia when I'm finished with Carroll Community College and this internship is a great way to prepare me for the "real world of business." The main goal of mine is to pursue a career in film. In other words, the skills I learn here can be used in any subject involving a camera from live broadcast shoots all the way to feature film making. I have learned so much here at the Community Media Center and the people who work here are very nice and provide a perfect work environment. A special interest of mine is F/x make-up. F/X make-up is what is used in movies and theater that can change an actor into a flesh-eating zombie or a cuddly teddy bear. I am documentary certified from taking a 7-week long workshop class taught by Leo Eaton, a producer for PBS broadcasting. Interests of mine outside of school are music. I am a huge fan of retro things from the 60's, 70's and 80's. My favorite bands are Judas Priest, Van Halen, Iron Maiden and DethKlok. I really love everything horror, lets just say when it comes to that genre I am a turbo nerd. I've been teaching myself how to learn basic camera shots and angles to get really cool action scenes filmed. Well that's pretty much it, I hope you found my life biography interesting and didn't put you to sleep. I highly recommend joining the Community Media Center of Carroll County to enjoy the many great opportunities they have to offer.

Dan Russell Hello, my name is Daniel Russell. I have been studying video production since my junior year of high school and am thrilled to be continuing my studying as an intern at the Community Media Center. I moved to Carroll County in 2006 and attended North Carroll High School. I got into video production completely by accident; I had to take pictures of the girls basketball team for the school newspaper and it eventually turned into taking photos and video for all of the teams. I became the official North Carroll Athletic Videographer. In my senior year, I took NC's scriptwriting and video production class taught by a teacher who inspired me to advance my skills in video production to a better level. By the end of the year, I was producing weekly specials on each sports team and ultimately producing a final video that played at the athletic banquet. I continue my work as a student at Carroll Community College helping the fine arts department archive all their different shows that they put on. I hope to expand my knowledge and abilities of video production by working hard and diligently with the Community Media Center.
