
Give Locally - Nonprofit Showcase to replace Annual Holiday Open House
The Community Media Center invites you to take part in our new Give Locally - Nonprofit Showcase program that is open to all nonprofits in Carroll County. This new show will replace the Annual Holiday Open House for Nonprofits. Our goal is to extend our reach, educate the local community on the value of your services, and to encourage them to support the local nonprofit community through donations or service.
Since early in 2009, CMC staff members have been meeting with several representatives from local nonprofits to reorganize and revitalize the Annual Holiday Open House for Nonprofits. Even though there is a great deal of affection for the event as a hallmark of the holidays, we felt that it was critical in these times to do better.
"Give Locally" Program Format
The new program will air multiple times throughout the year, each time offering profiles of several different organizations. Guest hosts will talk about the importance of "giving locally" and then segments about each organization will follow. All segments will include an example of how the organization is active in the community. That will be followed by either a 1-2 minute Q&A piece about the organization or a 1 1/2 minute public service announcement. Just like the Holiday Open House for Nonprofits, this program is open to all county organizations, but CMC organizational members can elect to have a public service announcement created for the program. Nonprofit Segments Available Online
Nonprofit segments will be included on the CMC website in a special nonprofit section. They will also be provided to each organization to use as they choose. This flexibility will enable organizations to tailor a "call to action" online. It may be for financial support, volunteer recruitment or to simply spread the word about the organization's mission.
How to Take Part
In order to create a segment for your organization, we will need a brief but compelling example of how your organization has helped in the community, general information and statistics about your organization, and a contact person for the segment.
CMC organizational members may create a PSA for the program. This simple process can be accomplished in about the same time it would take to participate in the Holiday Open House. A pre-made script can be tailored to your organization's mission and message. The CMC will meet with you and arrange to record a representative from your organization or create a photo slideshow from your photos and graphics.
Nonprofit representatives should allow 30 minutes to complete the segment. Testimonials for the Give Locally - Nonprofit Showcase are taped on the last Friday of each month from 9 am to 12 pm at the Community Media Center.
